The Workshop
The Workshop has been promoting the general welfare of individuals with disabilities in Jo Daviess County since 1961 when a small group of parents started The Workshop. The founding group of parents sought to establish a day program that would teach basic skills and provide activities for their children with disabilities. In a larger sense, the parents hoped to see their children develop potential and receive the respect of others in society.
Today, the mission of The Workshop remains to enhance the lives and families of adults with disabilities in Jo Daviess County by creating opportunities for independence. The Workshop’s programming focuses on job training and work opportunities for individuals with disabilities according to their interest and abilities. Other programs that are offered are health and wellness, with classes based on interest and need of the individual. Topics range from computer skills, virtual reality travels to other countries, learning other cultures, life skills, history class, art and gardening.
